Description

Kefim(Cefixime) is a third generation orally active cephalosporin.It is a broad spectrum antibiotic: bactericidal in action & stable to hydrolysis by many betalactamases.Kefim kills bacteria by interfering with cell wall synthesis.Kefim is highly effectiv against a wide range of pathogens including N.gonorroease,H.influenzae,moraxella catarrhalis including beta-lactamase producing ones:most of the entero bactriaceae,beta-laemolytic Streptococcus (group A& B)&Streptococcus pneumoniae.Kefim(cefixime)is more active than other oral cephalosporins against e. coli,klebsiella spp.Proteus mirabilis 7serratia marcescens.Kefim is also active against streptcoccus pyogenes 40-50% of an oral dose is absored from gastro-intestinal tract regardless of presence of meal.the plasma half life is usually about 3-4hrs.& may be prolonged in patients with renal disfunctions. about 65% of the absorbed drug is bound to plasma proteins.
